Great day today! We had fun helping our buddies make fraction caterpillars. Now in our 2nd week after holidays, we are back into work mode, learning how animals adapt so they can survive in their environment. We are practicing fractions in math and learning about world events in socials. We have reviewed and practised our writing learning intentions from term 1 and are learning a variety of strategies to help improve reading comprehension. We are about to begin planning, following and assessing personal goals for this term. How many images do you see? What are they? We are getting close to completing our learning about adaptation. The learning intention is to show an understanding of how organisms adapt in order to survive in the environment. You should be reviewing your terms, examples and explanations for next week's tasks or tests. Thank you to those who submitted the activities done at the Aquarium. In basketball you are showing more control with dribbling and passing. I loved how you passed the ball around and moved to get away from your check. Genius Hour Final reflection: Now that we have finished sharing, be prepared to work on your website tomorrow. You will be documenting your 1st term project with links, reflections and photos on your site. Science: 15 structures and 7 behaviours of animals that you read about in your text. Math: Gr. 6's- we need to continue working with pattern blocks, so no homework tonight. Gr. 7's-see your planner for math homework Writing-see feedback for draft 2 and either go back to complete draft 1 feedback or begin draft 3. Science: We continued with our reading of how animals adapt to their environment. Observe one animal in your community and describe the structures you notice. In other words, what are characteristics that help this organism survive in this community? For example, this fox has white fur to blend into the snow to avoid predators. Let's see how many ideas you can post.

Also post an idea (a mnemonic) of how to remember the duties of the amygdala, prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Be sure to check Kidblog if you have only completed edited draft #1 and are waiting for my feedback. You will be required to complete a revised copy called #2. P.E. tomorrow Post a comment for Jacob eg. a compliment, a question, etc. Today we learned that there are reading strategies which help readers understand what they read. 1. Choose one strategy from today (setting a purpose, making connections or background knowledge) and leave a comment describing how you used it and why this strategy is important for reading. 2. Is it possible to make connections without background knowledge? Math In math we reviewed how to place fractions on a number line. We also learned how to write fractions as mixed numbers, improper fractions and what that really means. Practice questions for homework. Genius hour projects: We are now sharing our projects with the class, beginning with our purpose, what we did, then what we learned. Here are a couple of examples from today.
