So now that we have an idea of what causes poverty, who is affected, what poverty looks like and what are some of the ways people are dealing with poverty; the big question is how can we take action! What can we do to make a difference? Or as our novel 'Drums' quoted; “Instead of agonizing about the things you can't change, why don't you try working on the things you can change”... what can we change? POST your ideas on how you believe you can help. Here is the video we watched today. POST: In socials, we have learned about millennium development goals, such as eliminating extreme world poverty by the year 2015 (we know this hasn't happened), and achieving universal primary (elementary) education. Was this a reasonable timeline? (The pledge was in year 2000) What might be some of the reasons that these goals are not important to all of the world's leaders? What would your life be like if you left school after grade 8? What grade do you think should be mandatory for all students around the world to complete? (5 years ago there were 57 million children around the world still not attending school.) What next steps would you recommend for world leaders and their future goal setting? Homework:
