Coast Salish art Reminders: Missing some Groovin forms. PE Monday Homework: Writing: concrete poems due Monday. Be sure your shape gives as much meaning as your words. Math - see Thursday Reading responses - you have seen modelling of how to get started with editing your drafts. This is an opportunity to revise, make any changes, add, delete and combine sentences. Use your criteria checklist to make all revisions and to self-edit. We will peer edit on Monday. Poverty: We shared our ideas about statistics, then did a reflection about our overall thoughts. There are some powerful images below. POST your thoughts. Art: We are beginning our art designs for our wooden fish cutouts. These are going to be legacies left behind at Hillcrest for many years so it is important to plan effectively before painting the wood. Here is the link for the Coast Salish design elements for our fish designs. Listen (so much better with words) to the design ideas, then practice this weekend putting some of the shapes together to create your own design. We will continue on Monday. Poverty takes on many forms:

My thoughts about the photo's- I think it's really sad living like that. One of the photo's below made a connection from what I've seen before. Alot of people who are living in poverty look inside the public garbage's for food's, supplies or clothing. I see alot of people doing that most of the time, riding on a dirty broken bike looking through garbage. It's really sad to see that. I thought, I want to help them really badly but I also want to enjoy my life. Another thought, I think that if you go to school and you don't study well then maybe when in your future it might be hard looking for a job, because you ignored your studies. Sometime's people suffer through poverty because of where they live. In one of the photo's there a picture where it's all sandy and kids are sharing a meal, they might not have great water because it's really hot there. I also think that poverty is'nt only about not having money, it's also because of a diaster that happened, like in 2013 a sunami in Phillipines accured. People's homes were ruined all there electricty, and since my family came from there we helped them. Maybe people grow with poverty because its a punishment from God.

Those photos make me feel really sad because It would be really hard not having parents, living on your own, not having food, water or shelter. Every time I see a child or person in poverty I really start to appreciate how fortunate I am to have a roof over my head and everything that I need to survive. I hope one day poverty will come to an end.

My thoughts are not only sad but depressing. People are living in poverty and its extremely hard to get a job. Employers ask questions and if you aren't prepared it's going to be VERY hard to get one. People are starving and we are barely doing anything about it. They should have shelters just like they have for homeless people. These people aren't homeless though they are only in poverty. Relative or absolute hey should have a place to eat. Once a month the shelter gives money to the people in poverty. The government gives the shelter the money and the check up on people to see how well they are doing, They have medicine and water and a clean place to stay. Like a hospital basically. But when the shelter gives the people money the see how they are with living in poverty and see if one little thing can get them right out of poverty! We all should be doing more. This shouldn't be a lesson. This should be a mission, Stopping poverty.

It's sad to see how many children live in poverty. It must be so hard to barely survive everyday not knowin if you will get any food tomorrow. It Is very fortunate that we live in a home with food and clean water.

I know we are very very lucky to have such a great place to live where we have shelter food clothes and clean water and way more. It would be so so so hard living in poverty and I feel really sad when I see the pictures of the people in poverty I think most of the pictures are of absolute poverty

I thought that these photos makes me feel really sad, and reminds me of how lucky I am. What I noticed was that these photos included a lot of children. We are all so very fortunate that we get our basic needs, and more.

I find these photos very sad. They show that children struggle just as much as grown ups and that even here in Canada we see this kind of stuff.

I think these photos show absolute poverty because they are bagging for money, sleeping on the sidewalk and wearing dirty clothes. I think some of the people living in poverty is strong and brave because they have to build their own home and have to find the materials.

I think that its very sad that when we see all those who are living in poverty you wish you could help but who knows what kind of mess they got themselves into. I think we take so much for granted whether its shores, toys, or the cloths on are backs. One time when my family went for pizza we had a left over slice so we were going to take it home. When we were backing up our car we noticed there was a homeless man who only had what was in his shopping cart. The man looked very hungry and we didn't need the slice of pizza that we had so we decided to give it to him. When he took it he devoured it in seconds. I took note of his reaction before and after we gave it to him and realized that to me I was thankful for the slice but didn't think of it much after I left the restaurant. His reaction was so big for such a little thing, he thanked as severally times and I then realized that many homeless people are some of the most polite, respectful, and kind people because they don't take things for granted like we sometimes do.

It makes me very sad to see that we waste food and get a roof over our heads and get to do lots of things. But they are starving and homeless.

All the photos shown really start to make me think about how fortunate I am and how I take things for granted. All the people living in relative and all of the people in absoulute poverty struggle to find just food and water.

I feel really really bad if you were in poverty imagin that it would be hard and when you see people in the streets you will feel bad but you cant do anything exept give snackes or money. I watched a video on yotobe and a man a man in poverty and said do you want food the homeless man said yes and the next thing you know they buy drugs and people just cant help their self and you cant do anything about it. I guess thats them thats their fult. THATS MY SPEECH KINDA MAYBE .
