Great fun today...outside for capture the flag, we are ready to begin our next art project and we worked on our final picture book response. We also added details to our definitions of extreme environments and had an interesting conversation about how human adapt to survive in extreme environment of Polar regions. View the video again and POST what we can learn from drilling into the arctic regions. Also what can humans learn from exploring extreme environments? Try to be original. Give your classmates feedback on their responses. Hope all goes well with our groups who are starting their action plans this weekend.

Humans can learn much from exploring extreme environments because it gives us the opportunity to be where no humans have been before/in a long time. Scientists could discover many things that we don't know about our earth from just exploring the arctic.

From drilling in the arctic, we can learn about the things that happened over the years, like what the temperature was like, what the sea was like and more. These "ice cores" are like tree rings, representing the temperature and the specific weather conditions that went by.

Little boy took the words right out of my mouth, you can learn the age, what happened in the past, temperature and what the sea was like. Humans can learn SOOOOO much from exploring extreme environments. They could see new animals that have never been seen before and they learn how it adapted to the environment. Also by exploring something extreme you can learn what humans are really capable of doing. What I mean by that is can we really live on another planet and survive? Is it possible for someone to go to the very bottom of the ocean???

You could learn about how the temperature was, how much snow there was, and how old the ice can be. You could also find out that after a long time there could be little microscopic organisms still living there.

You can learn different things like what the temperature was like years ago, and what the water was like ( heat, waves, etc). Also by doing that they can find different creatures that come up frozen in the ice cubes. We can learn maybe new information from exploring places like the Arctic and Antarctica and also maybe old things to like what they did to survive back then without all the new technology.

You can mesaure a variety of gases that were in the atmoshphere the time the bubbles were formed. And that the ice sheet that was shown in the video was more than 70 000 years old! Humans can learn how that extreme environment was created, what living organisims live in that extreme environment! They can explore a new idea that's never been created. See you guys tomorrow! Another day of learning!

We could learn if there was/is another species on this planet or if there were any unknown natural disasters.

when you drill in to the ice and look at it, there will be rings that tell you how old the ice is and what temperature it is like Little Boy said

It appears Little boy and I have the same thoughts! By having scientists gather information and study ice, we continue to learn and find out more about how the earth was many years ago.

By exploring extreme environments we could learn a lot. We could find new species and plants and so much more
