What a great beginning to the week!
Before we started our novel, The One and Only Ivan, we looked at student comments from our predictions and discussed which ones were effective. eg. cause the author to think about what he/she just wrote and want to reply again, ask a thought provoking question, or inform the writer. Our first comment to our global friends regarding this novel was about some exquisite language found early in the book. We practiced with other examples such as 'Humans waste words', discussing this in our small groups, then sharing our ideas with our classmates. Next we explained to our global friends in our own words what we thought the following statement means " In my size humans see a test of themselves."
