Our masks look great! Parents who made masks, please let me know if you want your child to take them home or do you want to come in and paint them. We have written our fall write and next week we will be publishing and displaying them. If you have not yet taken a photo for your write, please take one on the weekend. If you need to use the ipads on Tuesday to take a picture, let me know. To prepare for your science test, review and add to your notes. You have viewed video clips and participated in many discussions about humans in the animal kingdom, the classification system and how it has changed over time, and evolution. You can review by watching the links on the sidebar. Math - gr. 6's same homework from yesterday is due Tuesday and both groups have their unit test on Wednesday. Look for a global issue current event from the newspaper that you would like to report on for socials and bring it to class on Tuesday. If you cannot find one, you can use one of mine. Your final reading response will be written next week. To prepare for this, have all of your notes on Ivan organized and add your thoughts to the 'theme' page that I gave you today. Read the feedback that I gave you today for your first response and think about your next steps. Have a great long weekend and remember at some point to think of those who gave their lives so that ours could be better. Questions to reflect on this weekend. Comment here! 1. What separates us from other organisms in the animal kingdom? 2. Which traits/characteristics do we share with gorillas? 3. What is the message that the author Katherine Applegate was trying to give in The One and Only Ivan?

Yes I do think animals have feelings because when my dog got in to something he should not have we talked to him and you could tell he felt ashamed. Also when we scratched his ears it look like he was smiling. With my cat when she is sitting on our laps and we are petting her she starts to purr. which means that she is happy. And also with my cat we always know when she is hungry, its non stop Meow Meow Meow. I could give many more examples, so yes animals have feelings!

So you are saying that true friendship is fulfilling promises. Any other characteristics or examples that define friendship in this novel?

Q. Is there a difference between how gorillas communicate with each other and how humans communicate with each other?

Yes Mew, Ivan certainly was loyal and true to his promise to Stella. Have a look at the link I found on Koko the gorilla communicating. Gorillas don't have a similar voice to humans, but do they have complex feelings or thoughts like humans? How would we know?

I think that all animals have complex feelings, last year after Tiqa the baby beluga had died at the Vancouver Aquarium my parents and I had went to see the belugas, and Tiqa's mom Qila was looking around the tank, I think that she missed her baby. If belugas have complex feelings like sadness and the ability to figure out that something is different, what's to say that other animals like gorillas don't have feelings like that.
