Community
It was another productive and fun week including our amazing Titan Race on Friday night. We teachers loved watching the groups strategize, organize and carry out the 15 tasks. There was camaraderie, excitement and laughter. Students continued with our classroom community goals and many students are following through with specific school and classroom leadership jobs and class committees. As well, some students have joined extracurricular soccer and should feel proud of their accomplishments this season. Core competencies Students completed a card challenge while following specific rules and focussing on how well they interacted with their group members. Their goal was to make sure each member felt valued. They brought their duotangs home to share with parents, explaining how they used strengths of each member, how successful they were and what they did when they were frustrated. Curriculum Math: We reviewed our divisibility rules and are preparing for our final unit test this next week. Students brought home their 2 Big 5 math reviews and weekly quiz for parents to view and sign last week. Review booklets have been assessed, should be corrected and stored in math journal exercise books to be used for reference. Literacy Students are practising the writing process and after conferencing with the teacher, they record the specific skills they will focus on during their next writes. Next week we begin our writing connection with two international schools and student pen pals. We are starting our 6th week of 100 word writes and they can be viewed on this class site under each student's fictitious name. I have modelled how to give feedback with at least one 'star' (positive comment) and one 'wish'(suggestion for improvement). Students will introduce themselves to their new writing pen pals, then practice giving and receiving feedback. Students are following their reading guidelines of recording, sharing and enjoying their independent reading books. Soon further sharing will take place with book commercials. Science Students are preparing specific lessons to teach their classmates over the next two weeks about quantitative properties of matter. Reminders: We now have all permission forms for Fresh grade and parents should expect an invitation to their child's portfolio soon.
