Thanks Tweetiegal for posting our homework on Friday. We will now have students reporting daily and giving homework and home study reminders to their classmates. Additional information: PHOTOS on Monday. Parents: A newsletter dated Oct. 3 went home and I have only received 7 parent letters to be on the class parent contact list. Please ask your child to return the purple form to me asap. If you need another, your child can ask for one on Monday. If we do not hear from you by Wednesday, we will assume you do not wish to be on the contact list. Students: We are going to start a mini photography unit combined with writing. If you have your own camera, please bring it to school for Tuesday and Wednesday. If you have an extra 4 minutes to view this video, please do. youthprivacy Protect your online reputation! Many of you are aware of the very disturbing and heart-wrenching story of Amanda Todd who took her own life last Wednesday after continuous physical and verbal attacks. Please discuss this with your parents and we will continue the conversation in class on Monday. Remember when we were discussing the 'friendly' competition for a chance to skype with the author of Ivan? Well we have a couple of tricks up our sleeve to try to make this happen. One thing we are doing is putting together a montage of class pictures of all teachers involved in reading 'One and Only Ivan." Did you know that about 2/3 of our school is reading this novel? I want your input Div. 2. What should our class picture look like? eg. Do we want to hold up our favourite quotes? message for the author? stand behind signs of our favourite character? Please give your ideas on this comment page. We are doing this Monday so needs to be easy to prepare. I am going to email you a document that we can share. The purpose is to generate all the questions we have about The One and Only Ivan. Think about questions you think the characters or author have answered already. Do you have any good questions for the author Katherine Applegate? She has said she will choose the most interesting questions to answer personally. Wouldn't that be cool! What makes a good (effective) question? We have started some eg. If you could save a character, who would it be? Should there be zoos?

What if we all hold our 'warm/cold hands up and have a sign saying something like 'div 2 is glad we have Ivan in our hot little hands', 'hands up for Ivan' , 'all hands on deck for Ivan' or 'Div 2 gives a hand for Ivan' Thoughts?

Love that idea! I like "Div 2 gives a hand for Ivan" best.

Maybe we could hold a sign that says, "We are here because we are too much human, and not enough gorilla" as a reference to a line that Ivan said in the book.

I think we should have big letter written on our hands with our favorite quote and when we stand in a line the quote appears on our hands.

I have a burning question I just need to ask Katherine Applegate and here it is and I bet many of you have the same question "why did she chose to write about a silver back gorilla,2 elephants, and a dog and where did she come up with all the characters names and how did she come up with the whole story?"

It was based off of a true story, my parents and I saw it on the news.

Also, we could hold up a sign that says "Ivan", and the students could hold up words that describe him.

I think that we should all hold up one letter each, and all stand in a line, and when you see all the letters, they should spell out our favorite quote from the book. To figure out the quote, we could have a class vote.

That is a good idea. However, we have to find out a quote that has 28 letters.
