To parents and students: Community It was another productive week continuing with our learning, classroom community goals and school leadership jobs. As well, some students have joined extracurricular volleyball and our Think We club members have had the privilege of going to We Day. Core competencies We did not complete a reflection last week because there was a non-instructional day on Friday. Students are learning to take responsibility for their personal learning. Each day they practice recording homework and reminders in their planners, organizing their notebooks and bins, completing homework (work not completed during class) and meeting the daily classroom expectations eg. daily math corrections. Students who struggle with these responsibilities, need to spend additional time outside of class in order to achieve success. I am available before and after school for extra help. Please encourage your child to ask me for help or approach me with their concerns. Curriculum Math: Final unit test results for divisibility are on Freshgrade and original copies of tests, journal and practice are in student binders and exercise books. We are beginning our next unit on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using decimals. Literacy Students are continuing to record at the back of their writing exercise books, specific personal areas of focus for their next writes. Next week we begin our writing connection with two international schools and student pen pals. We are starting our 7th week of 100 word writes and they can be viewed on this class site under the student's fictitious name. Pen pals have introduced themselves and this week will begin giving and receiving feedback. (at least one positive comment and one suggestion for improvement). Students are will begin book sharing and formal commercials next week. Reminders: Student Fresh grade portfolios are up and running and parents should expect an invitation to their child's portfolio soon. Please email Ms Wilson if parents cannot open the site. P.E. is every Tuesday and Thursday: Gym strip, participation, leadership, team play, sportsmanship and fitness are expectations. (Below one of the many games to be played this year) Science demonstrations of quantitative properties-students had 3 class periods and at least one weekend to work cooperatively with their group of 3-4 to read, identify the concepts, and prepare their lesson for their classmates. These will finish next week. Upcoming Dates:
