Today during our reading of Wonder, August was so excited to dress up for Halloween. He absolutely loves the fact that no one knows who he is with his mask on. He also compares himself to the old mouldy cheese. What are your thoughts and feelings about the impact words and actions have on others? Can you think of real life examples? What lessons can be learned? Well the Conservatives won in our class!! Division 2 students have spoken loud and clear and they believe that this party did the best job presenting and supporting their platform issues. They may also have agreed with most of their issues. Well done and congratulations to all party members and especially the leaders that stepped forward to speak for the other members. We have just begun our fraction unit grade 6/7. Over the next few weeks you will need to check with your teachers in class and check Mr. Hong's class site or Mrs. Middleton's class site grade 7s depending on which class you are in. Here is a fraction game to get your brain warmed up. Find Grampy INVITE PARENTS! I put this on the class site on Friday and no one followed through. This is an invitation to parents, grandparents and other family members to come and read with us first thing in the morning on Monday, October 26th.
It is in celebration of National School Library Day. Here in BC we participate in DEAR (Drop everything and read) to mark the event. We normally spend about 20 minutes reading . Please let me know if your family member is attending and Mrs. Chapman will forward that information to the BCTLA executive who collects numbers for the whole province. Band people can take the first 20 minutes to read if their parents attend. Homework: Math: Grade 6s and Mrs. Middleton's 7s - Find real life examples of fractions. Mr. Hong's - See his site PROD tomorrow **I still need some Freshgrade notices and interims We do not have enough drivers for Water Polo - **still some needed to be returned All work from yesterday is due Monday (see outline from Wed) WE SCARE HUNGER - canned goods Old white sheets for ghost? Congrats conservatives party! The leaders did a wonderful job! I think Auggue doesn't except himself for who he is because he's calling himself the moldy cheese. Well, I would actually feel the same, if I was in auggie's situation, I would feel sad because people are avoiding and staring at me. I think people look at the appearance and judge the person but when you simply put on a mask you're their friend. But the thing is even though you don't have the mask on your like everyone else. It's sort of sad when Auggie says he's the moldy cheese because he's putting himself down and thinking that he doesn't belong there. A lesson from this could be, know that you're special. I will post the math question tomorrow.

The math question is: 4 2/5 divided by 3 2/3=? (Try not to use a calculator)

Tyler Oakley I'll know fractions and stuff pretty well. And considering the fact that we get most homework from math I'm pretty settled in. Oh wait, Ms. Wilson asked "Do you want any homework?" And I replied, "No thanks, it's my mom's first time going and she will want to- "So you don't want me to photocopy it?" "Yeah."

Words and actions are very powerful because they are the only way we can express ourselves without them the world would be very very dull. Just think of that for a second a world without names, governments and conversations what is the image in your head? Now think of a world with all that what is the first thing that comes to your mind now? I know without words and actions I think of a grey, dull and lifeless planet but when I think of words and actions I see a world that is better but stilled filled with greed and power because some people do not use words and actions kindly. What I am trying to say is be glad you can express yourself because words and actions are very powerful.

I really like your perspective of this post. Other people posted, talking about how words affect us but you say why words and actions are important. What they mean. I kind of laughed at your post. But its very true. No one would talk or do anything.

I think words are very powerful especially to some people. Just think one single word could change someone's whole life one single word. For example say someone says something very rude to someone else that on word could change there whole view of there life. It's crazy. So I think words could be very powerful, it just depends on how you use theme. And I can't think of a real life example.

I think words can ave a HUGE impact. Like this is a pretty small example but its still one time in grade 5 one of my "friends" kept saying I have really boring ugly eyes. I took this to heart and hated my eyes so much until toward the end of grade 6. When I started liking my eyes it was because one of my actual friends kept saying I have really pretty eyes.Words impacted me for the negative and the better like words can at any time. Lessons that can be learned from that are treat others how you wanna be treated because I was a jerk to her at first and yeah............

I remember that. I'm so sorry for whoever did that to you. I have an idea but not for sure. I wouldn't say any names or point fingers because I don't wanna hurt feelings. But we were there for each other! Thanks for being there for me and grade 5. :)

Words and phrases...... They have power that can hurt, cheer up, also dissipoint someone. They speak emotion and thought but most of all... power. I think certain words give of more power than others like the word pride and good. Example: I feel good about doing... Or I feel pride from doing... I think powerful words can really damage their confidence or also build up someone's confidence it really depends what they say.

I think that the impact of words can be very strong. Think before you say because it may not seem like you've hurt people by saying something, but they could be very upset and take it the wrong way.

Telling someone something as a joke could actually mean a very hurtful statement to them. Words and phrases matter so much more than we think. Yes we all know that they matter but it's way bigger than understanding how it impacts others. When I was in grade 5 I hula hooped every day during recess and lunch. I played games and had tournaments for how long my friends and I could go. But one day something didn't go right. I kept dropping the hula hoop, which was quite out of the ordinary for me. Someone who had not liked me and who I had not been fond of walked over to me. "You're so ugly and fat". Words have never made me reconsider my whole life and body, but those really stuck with me. Yes it was very hurtful. And the worst part was when I told the teacher the boy lied. He said he never said anything like that, or he would never do such a thing. It hurt me. It really hurts. I'm in grade 7. People will say the dumbest things and you just have to get over it. I understand anyones feelings who have had this or other things said to them. And I know how it feels. We need to be there for eachother, not being the perpetrator. From my past experience I have learned that words really stick with people for a long time. I mean I still have flash backs of that day. We can't let words and people define us. I have most definitely learned that if you can't say anything nice, DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. Have a good night everyone! Quote of the day: "Do un to others you would like to be treated."~Unknown.

You should Think about what your going to say before you say it because you don't know what a person could be going through that could hurt them -don't judge a book by its cover-if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

I think that words can be hurtful to others in some ways because they may not be what that person actually means. I think that actions are sometimes better than words, because they really mean things and not just saying things. An example of this is giving my mom a hug instead of just saying I love you.

Words and actions talk about your personality and how you act a lot. It shows if your caring, if you are willing to help, if your a swear bear. I think actions show more than words. Because they show if you words are true. Words hurt more in the heart and actions hurt more in the body. See you guys tommorow! Have a good night.
