Explanation of the 100 word write. Welcome students to the 100 word creative writing challenge! This is an exercise where each week you will be given a new writing prompt or 'theme' and you must publish your 100 words or less to your weebly page. You will also be instructed by Ms W to follow focus on a specific writing aspect each week. If successful, your write will then be copied onto the international blog. The learning intention is to learn to use self, teacher and peer feedback, give effective feedback and to improve your writing skills.
Feedback for peers You will be encouraged to visit your classmates blogs and to leave one positive comment and one suggestion. Remember to be specific and use the 'THINK' criteria. Peer to peer ‘talk’ is very powerful and if you use this opportunity effectively, you will see a real improvement in your writing. T (thoughtful) H (helpful) I (inspirational) N (necessary) K (Kind)
Effective comment criteria -open with a specific complimentary comment 'a star' -make a connection, give an example that the student has written -don’t repeat information from another commenter - give at least one suggestion -you could ask relevant questions that will promote more thought or further conversation -proofread your comments (be sure it makes sense and do your best to edit your comments for accurate grammar and spelling) Remember this is for all to see!
There is a group called Team100. These are volunteers who follow a set of guidelines while reading and commenting on students' posts each week. It is fun to have an authentic audience besides your class teacher. Your paragraph might be the one chosen for the 'special showcase'. I like the fact that reluctant writers only have 100 words to write while more advanced writers can really extend themselves with the word restriction. Enjoy your writing Division 2!
Before you copy and paste to send me your link, be sure to first write the week # at the top before your title, then complete this information at the bottom of your paragraph.
