POST: Today we read a very little part of Follow the Elephant. Ben once again has encountered another elephant. This time it is in the form of cave carvings that were 100's of years old. No one had been able to understand the drawings in this cave. Ben notices a small boy under the elephant's raised foot and another sitting in the curve of it's trunk. Why did seeing them make him feel so uncomfortable? Homework: Grade 7s bring your photos tomorrow for the parent group but now any other photo orders need to be online. Main purpose is to show your understanding of what you have learned in your poverty unit. Essay: due this weekend Criteria - see blue sheet for what you needed to research. Introduction-hook, opinion statement with purpose, intoducing your 3 reasons Body - three paragraphs with 3 key reasons supported by details, examples, facts Conclusion - summarize by restating 3 reasons in a new way and leave your readers with a thought, or action 'plea' Be sure to include 2 resources, your opinion with connections to what you have learned in our poverty unit Presentation: (these will begin with volunteers on Tuesday) -purpose is to explain to your teacher and classmates what you have learned and why the money should go to your recipient and organization. -be prepared, practice what you will say and how you will tell your information, e.g. if you are reading your essay, then it should be well-rehearsed like a speech, as you will be assessed on eye contact, audience engagement, and fluency. -you may use cue cards, text to help you, key points can be a visual, pictures, slideshow to support what you are saying as you are speaking, etc. -voice must be clear and loud enough -visuals and text must be large enough and clear enough to see from audience -you need a purpose for including these visuals, explain how they are connected to your project Reminders: Be sure to complete your poetry terms.
