What a great day! Awesome water polo...excellent play at Makerspace and getting our art projects displayed. Who said school wasn't fun! We are starting our final science assignment next week and will be using the Makerspace materials. This assignment will be about your understanding of forces, critical thinking and creativity. Think about who you wish to partner up with...groups of 4. Think about all of the concepts you have learned in this unit on Forces. Think about the questions that you asked at the beginning of the unit. Then POST what you think our BIG IDEA should be to demonstrate your learning of all of the above. Finish this 'Big Idea' statement: "What can I create that will...." Drama starts next week and there are 6 of you still needing to bring your forms in. Bug and Grumpy - be ready to do your science demo Monday. Be sure to start reading about your landmark and find reliable sources. We will have next week to work on these and pick our due date on Monday.

Wow the end of January is already here! What fun to watch the grade 6/7s at play today. Our learning intention was to create and explore using the Maker space materials. It was marvelous to see the focus, creativity and beginnings of critical thinking. POST any and all questions you were asking yourself or your group mates during the exploration. What were you thinking as you were creating? What were some of the problems that arose? What were you trying to do? Here are some more awesome art examples. Fun and busy day today! We did more practice with inferences. We also had a lot of class time to work on our poetry. Be sure your edited drafts are ready for typing tomorrow. I have the laptops signed out so you can type them during class. Read over your final socials assignment and use the class site today to solve any questions you still have. Tomorrow we will pick our due date and discuss any outstanding questions. You are handing in your Novel Approach duotang tomorrow so be sure to have all strategy and practice worksheets organized. Wow am I ever impressed with some of your Lichtenstein art!
We had some excellent demonstrations of Newton's Laws. The last demonstrations will be tomorrow.
Your Lichtenstein art is also due tomorrow. You have a class to work on your poetry tomorrow before the edited drafts are due on Thursday. We have had many wonderful examples of poetry including the ones you posted on the site. But we are finding out that reading them is different from writing. POST one idea that will help your classmates to write a meaningful, interesting poem. I will start: Think of a message or topic that you want to write about...something that you are passionate about or an issue that troubles you. Then you will have more to say. Sorry this is late...staff meeting today :) Our last 'Novel Approach' learning intention was, 'I can make inferences when reading in order to deepen my understanding'. Read the inference examples below. POST...Create your own inference by writing two indication sentences and one inference conclusion as per the examples. Then share how inferencing helps you become a better reader. Inference: Deriving Conclusions from Indications:
Skating rocked today! Thanks to parent drivers for helping out in a pinch. We have enough drivers for water polo on Friday. Yay! Thanks parents. We have also extended our Poetry assignment deadline to Thursday as we want to spend some time creating and revising our poems. Be ready for your science demonstrations tomorrow. Thanks to those who went today. Here are some images of science and skating. 3-day weekend! So you have lots of time to play, read and prepare your science demonstrations on Newton's laws. Remember to continue to work on your goals ...we have two and a half more weeks. Bring Water Polo notices and please ask for parent drivers as we are still short for our first session. Bring your physical literacy permission forms please Bring your Drama notice next week please. ProD tomorrow so no school. Reminder of skating Monday Jan. 26th at Cloverdale. We will leave at 8:50. Way to go Little Boy...you win for being the first to answer the question yesterday. Actually all 3 laws could be applied to the example that was on the site yesterday. I loved hearing some of your practice poetry today! POST your favourite poem and explain why it is your favourite. (Copy and paste) It could be the lyrics from a song. Include a link if it is a song, so your classmates can hear it. As you know we are participating in the physical literacy study. We will start by completing a google survey. Remember to submit after answering all the questions. Bring Water Polo notices and please ask for parent drivers as we are short for our first session. Bring your physical literacy permission forms please and there is one more notice I want to send home tomorrow for our specialty Drama classes. Movie night notice. ProD this Friday so no school. Reminder of skating Monday Jan. 26th at Cloverdale. We will leave at 8:50. Have a look at the tricks that can be done with Newton's cradle...Who can get the correct answer first? This is an example of which law? Now look at this video called pendulum waves. What do you think is happening and why? Today Mrs. F and I demonstrated Newton's 3 laws. You and a partner will do the same on Monday. You will be required to discuss the forces involved, what is happening and why. You will be given time tomorrow to get together to explore a topic and discuss a plan but will need to meet or do a telephone/skype/email conference over the long weekend to make sure you have your materials and plan in place.
**We suggest you try to get together to practice once over the weekend. If you have any questions put them on today's site where all students can learn the answer. Now for which law to choose!! To be safe, you can google different experiments for all three laws just in case you don't get what you want. The 1st 10 partners to email me [email protected] will get their choice. Be sure to tell me who your partner is and I will email you to confirm. For those who don't care, I will assign the law. Newton's 3 laws Wow another day whizzed by!! Bring Water Polo notices and please ask for parent drivers as we are short for our first session. Movie night notice. Reminder of skating Monday Jan. 26th at Cloverdale. Gr. 7s -be sure to bring your fraction strips tomorrow. No new homework for poetry but be prepared to discuss yesterday's work. Today after learning how to use the strategy Determine What's Important, you practiced with the poem Beautiful. Watch this Grammy Performance by the singer Christina Aguilera, written by Linda Perry. Then POST your opinion of what this song is saying. Did you change your thinking after watching this performance? If so, how did your thinking change and why did watching her sing make a difference? Watch the science video again. Add to your definitions if needed and find examples of the 3 laws of Newton. Hint: look around your home. Complete your definitions of the science vocabulary. Be sure to include an example. This is a helpful link for most of the concepts. Here is a second link that may help. Grade 7 math: Review for fractions quiz tomorrow: mixed numbers to improper fractions, ordering fractions, lowest terms, using a number line. Socials: Some of you need to dig deeper into your sources in order to determine whether it is reliable or not. You need to locate more information about the authors and site to help you think critically. Have a look at the site Tree Octopus and see if it is reliable or not. POST your findings and try not to repeat evidence. Complete the socials you began today on Explorers. Using the 2 links on your site, answer the 3 questions and be prepared to discuss your findings tomorrow, especially the big question comparing the two resource sites. Gr. 6s math-same as Thursday Language Arts: Complete your poetry on Waiting for the bus. You have a quiz on the 5 poetic devices tomorrow.(onomatopoeia, alliteration, metaphor, simile and personification) Be sure to have all novel approach strategies in your duotang and signed by parents after you have explained to them what you are learning. We are learning another tomorrow. PE: Our instructor Gabor first informed us of what water polo is and explained what we would be doing. Then in the gym he showed us some physical moves to help us with the skills we will be needing. We are very excited to be improving our swimming skills along with learning to play water polo. This video give you an idea of what water polo looks like! We have continued with our study of reliable sources by exploring the sources we chose when describing our landmarks. Be sure to complete 5 and share your google doc with me. For your interest, check out the top 100 landmarks as seen on Google maps and the 5 top Canadian landmarks chosen by one organization.. Another song about CRAAP! Poetry- On Monday we will review the four devices you have learned. There is one more to introduce, then be ready for a little quiz on Tuesday. Science - you were given feedback sheets that informed you that more information was needed. Revisit the video links from last week and add to your notes for mass, weight and gravity. Gr. 7s you will not have math on Monday but will have a quiz on Tuesday on your concepts learned to date: using number lines, strategies and benchmarks to order fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions, finding equivalent fractions and common denominators and putting fractions in lowest terms. What a fun day with our buddies. We designed our own activities and taught them to our buddies in the gym. Then we did some physical fitness, dance and movement activities in class with them. I was very impressed with your leadership today. POST your opinions about this task. We have continued our study of Lichtenstein art. Here is a copy of your criteria. This weekend you can practice the techniques you are going to use. There is a link that illustrates how to use repetition, rhythm and pattern. You will get 2 class periods next week to work on these. |
