It's Friday...Friday...(you know how it goes?) Happy weekend everyone. What a great week it was albeit a tad short. Our Terry Fox run and Cops for Cancer events yesterday were successful and thanks to all for your generous donations. Parents: I still have not received everyone's email. Please ask your child where to send this to me. (see welcome page - email for parents) Homework/Reminders Today was a very exciting day! We connected with our global friends. Hopefully next week there will be even more of our global friends online. We introduced ourselves and already have learned that one of our global classes lives in a very small town in the Olympic Peninsula and their school includes Kindergarten to grade 12. Remember all forms and notices. Kitemaking is next week. Math Gr.7's Complete divisibility rule for 9 in booklet and practice for multiples, factors and divisibility rules Writing Complete your 3rd personal reflection and bring your book on Monday to hand in. Reading After seeing items in a shoebox, we made predictions about the novel we are about to read called The One and Only Ivan. We also wrote the characteristics that we thought our main character might have. After that we watched the book trailer and had the chance to add to or change our predictions. If you want to watch the trailer again click below. Then comment here on how your prediction and thinking changed after you watched the trailer. Ivan trailer

What are some of the things we can do to make our learning situation better this year? Terry Fox run tomorrow morning. Be sure to bring water and proper gym strip. Also remember to bring any pledges. Note: Can you check your supplies at home and at school on Tues or Wed. A bookmark went missing on Friday and someone probably accidentally gathered it up while we were putting away our things. It should be in our class as we did not switch desks or for math on Friday. There are the initials J.E.S. on the back in pen. Thanks for looking.
I am noticing that many of you are still not caught up with the correct pages in your web sites. Please work on these this weekend. See all previous reminders on class site. Also you need to add blog pages in order for others to comment. You will receive an email from me if you are still behind. Do all of your parents know about the meeting on Thursday, Sept. 27th. What a great day we had on Friday! There was a lot of learning going on! I love how we are learning to write more interesting and thoughtful comments. The image above shows the students' practice comments to anothers' website. We have started a discussion about what makes a comment more effective. Notice how many of us are praising and encouraging but very few are adding personal opinions or giving new information to promote student thinking. Guess what we are doing next? Homework and reminders: 1. Watch the video by clicking on the 'We are all connected' link below. Let's practice personal commenting and responding to others here. What are your thoughts when you view this video. Remember our criteria for effective comments. We are all connected. 2. Finish your two pages under Reflection: 1. The Digital Me 2. How I will manage my learning! 3. Math homework for grade 6/7 due on Wed. 4. Create a blog page under your reflection if you haven't done that yet and complete your first reflection. Then ask your parents to respond to you. (parents, you could ask questions, give suggestions or encouragement) Question to answer: How do you feel so far with how you have been managing your learning? We are doing the Grouse Grind on Tuesday, Sept. 25th. Be at school at 8:15, ready to leave at 8:30. A huge thank you to all parent drivers! We couldn't do this without you. Your child has brought home a driver form that you can fill out and give to me before we leave.
Be sure to wear layers and bring a knapsack with your lunch, plenty of water and throw in an extra t-shirt to change into after the hike. Hi all, Great day today! We learned how to write more effective comments to others. We also learned more about Auggie in Wonder. Comment here on what you think Auggie will do now that he has overheard Julian and Jack Will. Reminders:
Grouse permission for tomorrow and yes we still need parent drivers. Forms, entertainment books, student information forms for me from parents (purple sheet) HW: Be sure you have your digital citizenship list completed as I will collect this tomorrow. Math for grade 6/7 is due Monday as we will not be switching tomorrow. Bring P.E. strip tomorrow and your French is also tomorrow. Tell your parents that we are meeting next Thursday, Sept. 27th between 5 and 6, NOT TOMORROW! (see newsletter) and I will send another reminder home tomorrow.
Also please ask parents to send me their email via the home page 'parent email'. Your Grouse Grind permission slip and $10 need to be in tomorrow as we need to organize driving. We cannot wait until Friday because there is no school on Monday and the trip is on Tuesday. I am still missing some notices from last week eg. walking field trip, shots for grade 6, and remember entertainment books. Thanks...have a great night. Phew! Another busy day but very productive. Hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend. Be sure to complete the tasks stated under Sept.14th so we can begin viewing each others' sites and give feedback. I have not received everyone's google docs for the assignment last week of 'why you were called your name'. If that is you, please do that now. I will try to respond to everyone as I read these. If you are having difficulties sending it to me, email me with your questions. (see email on sidebar) Enjoy the sunshine! |
