Great fun today...outside for capture the flag, we are ready to begin our next art project and we worked on our final picture book response. We also added details to our definitions of extreme environments and had an interesting conversation about how human adapt to survive in extreme environment of Polar regions. View the video again and POST what we can learn from drilling into the arctic regions. Also what can humans learn from exploring extreme environments? Try to be original. Give your classmates feedback on their responses. Hope all goes well with our groups who are starting their action plans this weekend.

The weather forecast is calling for a high of 26 degrees tomorrow so be sure to wear your sunscreen! You are not to go off any trails during your free time at the top of the mountain. Today we watched a video about incredible deep sea life. If you wish to see it again click on this link. We watched until about 33 minutes. May 28 Grouse Grind May 29 Hot Lunch June 3 Track meet June 8 Hot lunch June 9 Talent Show June12 Sports Day June 17 Clayton June 18 Grade 7s to Clayton/Tweedsmuir for scavenger hunt June 19 Fun Night June 22 Playland June 23 Pancake breakfast for Grade 7s June 24 Grade 7 final assembly Today for Gr. 6 math we completed definitions of various graphs. Review this link if you need to add information. For homework you are to complete your tally sheet, pictograph and double bar graph - due Thursday but because of Grouse Grind you can hand them in on Friday. You will be given the class tomorrow to work on this. Here is an example of the tally sheet but remember to include boys and girls on yours. Remember the pictograph should have one common symbol, a legend (key) explaining the number of students represented and what the symbol represents, title, labels for the axes and also be neat. Here is a review of how to create a double bar graph along with a review of a pie graph. (Only watch to 5 minutes) To the left is a good example of a double bar graph. Steps in making a bar graph: Decide on a title for your graph (eg. Pet Popularity). 1. Draw the vertical and horizontal axes. 2. Label the horizontal (X) axis (eg. Type of Pet). 3. Write the names of pets where the bars will be (eg. Parakeet, Dog, and so on). 4. Begin the bar right beside the Y axis if vertical bar. 5. Label the vertical axis (eg. Number of Students). 6. Decide on the scale. You should consider the least and the greatest number shown on the graph. Decide on the range of numbers (Begin at 0 and always go to a bit higher than your highest answer). 7. Draw a bar to show the total for each item. Be neat and use ruler! We absolutely need the Grouse Grind permission forms tomorrow. We are short parent drivers and need to scramble to see if we can find enough rides. Today in Science we discussed and took notes describing the 5 key extreme environments and how they pose challenges to humans for survival. Choose one of these 5 environments and post 3 questions: something that you don't know the answer to and will enjoy digging deeper. Also POST: What environment would you explore if you could choose any exploration? Why would you choose this extreme environment? What would your immediate concerns be for survival? What would you need to take with you? Important Dates:

Post the name of the extreme environment that you are really curious about and give one interesting fact that you have found out. Imagine being a modern day explorer. See the videos below. Have a great long weekend and be sure to be ready to discuss your action plan. Grade 6s: You are using the data from one of your survey questions to practice creating a pictograph and a different question for a bar graph. These are due Tuesday. Here are some examples of pictographs that are similar to the ones you are doing for homework. Remember to include a title, labels for your x and y axis (number of classmates asked with total of 8 and the choices), the same symbol for your pictures and colour, and a legend with the explanation of what your symbol represents (the legend is not really necessary this time as the symbol already represents each type of vegetable and we are creating one symbol for each person asked. Below are some examples of bar graphs. Thank you for all your suggestions for outdoor games yesterday. Some of you repeated ideas but we have lots to choose from for our fitness breaks. After our google doc work and brainstorming as individuals and as a class, here are the 3 areas to choose from for your Socials Poverty Action Plans: 1. Raising money to donate to an organization 2. Raising awareness to make a difference eg. petition, website 3. Physical work eg. garden to help with food going to food bank, Salvation Army, Save-On Food bank Today we spent some time discussing our action plans for Socials. POST: What are some of your specific questions that you need to answer in order to move forward in your chosen activity?
