It's time for playground games!! Great time today with our buddies! All reflections are done and work is uploaded onto Fresh grade. If you are still needing to upload and you can't do that from home, come early on Monday to get it completed. Quilt making time: Look at the gallery below for some ideas on what we will be doing for the class quilt we are making. You will each be completing a square. For Monday, choose a plant that has some kind of special meaning to you. For example, it could be something that grows in your heritage country,(mine could be the Scottish thistle, the rose or lavender in England); it could be the plant associated with the month you were born in (mine would be the Sweet Pea for April); it could be a special plant that has a particular meaning for you (mine would be the Wisteria that my friends gave me when my dad passed away); and there are many more examples. POST the name of your plant and share why you chose that one. Then start sharing some ideas of how you would like to represent your artwork on the square of material. (It might be something you don't know how to do eg. sewing) Homework/Reminders:
All uploaded work and reflections should be on Fresh grade Math (see yesterday for grade 6) Bring your red shirt on Monday Decide on which plant/flower you will do your quilt square on. Practice your dance moves and actors practice your expression in a mirror. Entrepreneur show Wednesday Who gets this? Yay, tomorrow is PJ day!! But there will be no sleeping in class!! Remember tomorrow to have all of your evidence for your goals and your original blue and yellow goal sheets ready for me to collect. Additional Reminders: - complete all science, biomes due (share with me) - reflection on gdoc - math for Monday (see teachers), gr. 6s 2 practice sheets, pg. 228 #4,5,6,7a), b) and c) - bring goals and evidence tomorrow - bring red shirt tomorrow so we can see them Have a look at your dance video and POST one thing you can do to improve for your next practice. Everyone is an actor and dancer (even the narrator is acting and you will join in the dance at the end) Here some background information on Rocket Richard We are discovering the difference between a food chain................food web..... Pyramid of numbers is a model showing the transfer of energy passing through various levels in a food chain. In particular, it shows the numbers of organisms at each level. There are fewer organisms at the top (thinner) and many organisms 'producers' at the bottom (wider). The fewer secondary consumers need to eat more of the organisms on the lower level in order to get enough energy. Challenge: Our attendance person has recently been focussing on questions about the Syrian refugees and due to some of the hate crimes in the world news, I thought this might be a good time to show you this clip. What are your thoughts after watching this?
Beautiful Peace art. Reminders: Be sure to work on your goals as I will be doing an assessment Friday. PJ day is on Friday. Be prepared to practise our dance/theatre during P.E. tomorrow. Bring your red shirts. Optional post today. You can post a comment or question you might have today. Lots of learning was happening today. We learned the difference between a food chain and a food web, and photosynthesis and respiration and what a pyramid of numbers means. Here is the link for biomes of the world. Choose one and feel free to start reading about it so you can begin your next assignment tomorrow. Reminders:
Be sure to work on your goals as I will be doing an assessment Friday. PJ day is on Friday. Be prepared to practise our dance/theatre during P.E. tomorrow and Thursday. Wow, water polo fun today!! POST your favourite thing about today! We also reviewed the importance of organizing our ideas when we write. Be sure to complete your snowboarding 'mixed-up' paragraph for tomorrow. More photos of our water polo and Peace art. Our final water polo is Monday. Please remind your parents that we return a bit later as we swim until 2:30. Thank you to all parent drivers. We will leave at 1:00 and return to Hillcrest around 2:45, depending on how quickly the students change. We are beginning week 3 of our goals. If you still have not explained your goals and plan on Freshgrade, please catch up this weekend. Also on Freshgrade you are all expected to assess each week on exactly what you did to follow your plan and how you think you did. Then decide what you need to do to improve. Do you need to start your plan, change some of your strategies or ask me for another idea on how to achieve success? Many of you are working really hard to be a better student. What I see is this: Instead of saying... You say... I'm not good at this. What will help me? I give up. I'll use some of the strategies we've learned. It's good enough. What can I do to make it my very best work? I made a mistake. Mistakes help me learn! POST one thing that you can do to be a better student. Yay!!! It was over the top excitement when the grade 7s received their hoodies today. Science test Monday!! You have all chosen one study strategy, such as a concept map or cue cards with definitions and images on them. Do your best to prepare yourself. See the reminders of concepts and terms covered on yesterday's site. We have learned our science concepts and terminology in Chapter 1 including the following: characteristics of living things, abiotic, biotic, species, ecosystem, population, habitat, community, niche, predator, prey, producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, scavengers, decomposers, symbiosis, parasite, parasitism, host, mutualism, commensalism, and the food chain. You will be tested on these concepts on Monday. How will you prepare for this test? Decide on one strategy you will use. Bring your ideas and any helpful tools you have made tomorrow and I will give you class time to study. POST one example of each (mutualism, commensalism and parasitism) Read your classmates examples so you do not repeat examples. There are some fun songs that will help you with review. See below: Here is the link to the 'funny' review for the food chain.
WE ARE A TEAM!! How fun watching you today at water polo!! Post one thing you loved about it! For those who did not participate today in water polo, research and post 2 rules when playing water polo. Today the students had their first "in-water" water polo session. Thank you to our parent drivers who transported the kids to the pool.
