Social Studies - Three Theories Explaining the Start of FarmingBased on our discussions on the importance of farming in the development of civilization, I want you to read the following theories on how farming began and answer the two questions after.
Please remember to be detailed in your answer and provide support evidence. Thanks, Mr. R. Farming Theories 1. Spilled-Grain Hypothesis: Neolithic women - who probably gathered the wild grain - notice that new grain plants grew when they accidentally spilled grain seeds on purpose, and it worked! 2. Watching-the-Animals Hypothesis: Animals often find plants to eat in places with water and good soil. The peope who hunted animals noticed this pattern. When people stayed at these sites, the animals became tamer. People started weeding and irrigating the plants so they would grow better. They also started saving the seeds of the better plants and planting them. 3. Moov'en-and-Goov'en Hypothesis: One season, nomads liked a site so much they decided to stick around for a while. they stayed so long that they harvested a crop and then saw it grow to harvest stage again. These groups learned to grow a crop from seed to harvest and then move on. Questions 1. Why was the introduction of farming such an important event in the story of human development? 2. On your own, explain why you agree with one of the hypotheses described above, or propose one of your own. Write down two facts or reasons to justify your hypothesis.
