I hope everyone is feeling a little less anxious and more comfortable in class after today. We had some very interesting conversations about growth mindset, stereotypes and leadership qualities and I appreciate your participation. Some of you are already showing risk-taking and outside of the box thinking. Today we learned how to catch up with our homework if unable to complete it at home last night. Students are welcome to come in early to complete homework but must email me to let me know as they will need supervision. My email is [email protected]. I will be asking for your nicknames tomorrow and I am looking forward to hearing some more 'Brain Break' numbers games. I know you are looking forward to your turn at the M and M questions. POST: What is your idea of the perfect teacher? Here is one video we saw leading into our discussion about the power of words Homework/Reminders:
Grouse Grind Friday, September 18th - forms tomorrow if possible. We need parents drivers in order to participate. Complete four 4s game (see if your parents can help find some more answers) Class site question Five words for I am...(words that are thoughtful, honest, personally meaningful) Supplies, $5 planner, inside shoes, novels, gym strip WELCOME BACK to school and welcome to Division 2. My name is Linda Wilson and I will be your grade 6/7 teacher. I am so excited about our year together. I look forward to reunions with last year's students and parents and getting to know new students and parents. Why a class site? The key purpose for this class site is communication but it is not a substitute for a student planner. Students are still expected to maintain individual planners to practise independence and responsibility. This site includes the day's events, as well as homework reminders and activities. It informs students and parents of our daily work and is especially valuable for those students who are absent. I often include a homework question for review, preview, or assessment of knowledge or understanding of a concept. You will see the word 'POST'. Feel free to browse past posts and comment on today's question. When you have a specific personal question that is not meant for the whole class, please email Ms Wilson: [email protected] Reminders: Over the next few days we will be focussing on classroom and school community building, reviewing routines and expectations, as well as organizing our notebooks, supplies and classroom. For example, last week we practiced bringing inside shoes and a novel to read and remembering to take off your hat at the door. Let's see if everyone can follow these expectations and continue this routine throughout the year. You do not need to bring your entire year's supplies but this week you will need your binder, 1 pack of paper, dividers, English dictionary, French-English dictionary, 6 exercise books, 2 duotangs, stickies, gym strip and pencil case with 2 pencils, eraser, 2 pens, highlighters, colouring pencils, felts, scissors, glue and ruler. I will be giving you a planner and a folder that will be used daily for transporting notices and loose paper for homework. POST: What are some of your wishes (hopes, dreams, wants) for this school year? (This can be individual, for the class or for your school community) Homework:
a. How many times I worked out this summer. b. How many cm tall the weeds are in my yard right now! c. How many times I've been to Disney World. Now it's your turn! Here are some photos from our first week of school. Our brain break at the end of the day...4 corner soccer.
