Our final Water Polo...we loved it! Phew! What a full day! Maker space in the morning...B.C. skills and then water polo. Oh and don't forget Candy!! We are almost there for our 21 days off gratitudes. Remember to post as well on Saturday and Sunday. Have a great weekend and remember to POST today's science reflection on the site. Once a member of your group posts, reply to their post and add to their opinions...don't repeat the same information. I encourage you to post an example of how to write a thoughtful reflection including what your group did, how you pushed your learning, what questions you had today, how you solved problems, and what you are going to do next. Here are the students working at their B.C. Skills and Trades workshop. Reminder:

also I have to add that we fixed the problem by putting two plates together and had 1 pieces on the sides and left a long hole in the middle. we put the wheel in the hole and it spun slower.

Today our group worked on two things, making our balloon car look better without adding any weight and making the balloon car go further. First we tried arranging some things to make the balloon car move further. So we tried blowing the balloon bigger but that just made the air come out without moving the car next I tried adding 3 straws but air came out of the straws because there were little holes

Your right about that I tried it and it didnt work either. Yes, we tried to make the balloon car go furthur, because your balloon car was the fastest amongst Willow and I. So we thought our main balloon car would be yours. But we still went our own way, to try and make another balloon car, with way more acceleration.

Finally we thought of something that would actually work, we can make an incline with Lego so the straw so the air pushes against the floor. We added 2 pieces of Lego underneath the straw and balloon, it actually worked! In this balloon car there was lots of friction between the balloon car and the floor while the balloon car was moving. Acceleration was involved, if I had blowed more air into the balloon the further the car would go. Making the car look nice and clean we put the same colours of Lego, straws and a balloon. We had struggles today but we overcame them by trying new/different things.

Today our group replaced the arrow, then designed the ballista so it would look cooler, and of course, make the whole thing more sturdier. I would say our biggest accomplishments today were finding out how we can make the projectile fly further. I think today was mostly about editing. Some problems we came across were replacing the arrow, and to make the ballista sturdier, which were both fixed. We even found out the forces involved in the ballista! It is going so well, that not much is needed to further our project. However though, my next steps would be to share what I've got (we have to share, right?) and to make it a teeny bit sturdier.

On Friday me and my group accomplished making another car to push the main vehicle forward when it drops. Our next steps would be to reinforce the smaller car so it can sustain ramming into the main vehicle. We also need to add more force to the smaller car can push the main vehicle with more force.

Today our group tried something different with our balloons to car mechanism. We tried to put straws into the balloon but quickly learned that the air being reflected from the inside of the balloon to try and push the car was very small and not strong enough. Then we tried to just use a balloon on top but it still wouldn't work. Now we have a question. How can we make our cars move without using our hands to apply force of acceleration. We kept trying different things but it just wouldn't work. Today was definetly a test to see what would and wouldn't work. Pros during our makerspace were: My group and I were able to communicate well with our troubles of the balloon. We even decided which car pushes the other and we were able to try and fix it while having everyones suggestions. My group and I were even able to help eachother when they were confused, frustrated, or just needed some suggestions. Cons in our MakerSpace time were: The balloon and straw mechanism wasn't working too well so we were trying to think of other ideas we could use. We also quickly realized that most of the balloons we were using were very weird and funny shaped balloons which found out the hard way that they DO NOT work with trying to move our cars with balloons. All in all we realized that we really need to think through our new plans and try to figure something out.

That was a reply good explanation of what we did on Friday, and I also wanted to add that everyone in out group made a car, and at first we were just going to pick 2 cars to use but then we compromised and decided that everyone should use the cars they spent time on, so we're now doing two examples, one with the two cars with greater mass and the second one is the two cars with less mass.

I agree with you when we raced the balloon carts willow and my cart went futher, i think that because the cart that you made had little holes and that made the air come out.

Today my group fixed the arrow in the ballista by testing out many different pieces and blocks. We settled with the one that flew the farthest, fastest and fit the easiest on the elastic band. We then made the base a whole lot sturdier by adding another connector piece and and addin more to the bottom of the plate. We don't usually have many more steps to do but our next steps could be to reach the fastest possible speed for the ballista.

Agreed. I would say that we also added some "effects" to make the ballista look cool. We also got more into the use of effective arrows. However though, I would say that my friend FecalFlatulence mentioned most of what we did.

My group worked on how we could use the bloons to push the cars instead of us ouching the cars. We thought of different ideas that would work but none of them did so we are still working on that but if it doesn't work than we are going to just push them with our hands

My group and I finished making our structers as stable as possable and then testeted the man pushing the car. The car went the farthest when we used the guys stomach to push the car! We could not work with the balloon though because Megan was away so we could not blow up the balloon but I figure it will still work out. We also decided to make a little rectagle out of straws so the car dies not go to far and we also decided to mesure its distance by marking how far it goes with lego.

On Friday my group and I were focusing on making our tower, person, and car as strong as we possibly could by taping and putting more pieces together, we also measured the distance the person would push the car from different heights. I'm not particularly sure because I don't remember but I think the car went the slowest from the head, went not slow but not fast from the knees, and fastest from the stomach. We knew how far they would go by marking the length with different coloured Legos.

Today my group thought about how we could get the two cars to go faster and farther. We also were trying to figure out if there would be enough force from the two cars going down the ramp to knock over the building. I found out that the balloons don't work so that's a minor setback to our project. Since the balloons didn't work I had to rebuild my car.

Today our group worked on the pulley system to make sure it works at maximum efficiency, but not tear the string the pulley uses to shreds from friction. We also built up the elevator shaft and discussed wether to make a floor 2 platform or not.

For this maker space my group and I attached balloons to our main car in an attempt to make it glide down. We also did this so it would hopfully continue to move forward when it glided down We also made another car as a backup plan to push into our main veichle in case it stops when it lands. We did both of these things to substitute a human force, and push our learning.

Today my group tried to attach ballons to the car to make it gain more momentum as it goes down our ramp but the wheels where rubbing on the ballon slowing it down and causing friction. We gave up after 7 attempts because we just couldn't figure out a way.

Today my group had one problem and an accomplishment, the accomplishment was that one of our group members made a balloon car and it went so fast, our problem was that the original balloon car wouldn't go as fast!!! Our next steps are to make the original balloon car move as fast as the other car, one question we had are how do we make the original balloon car move as fast as the other one? Some thoughts were to add more balloons but that didn't work so then we said to add more straws to the two balloons and that worked!! Our next steps are to make the original balloon car move as fast as the other car!

I agree that the other one had more acceleration than the orginal cart but i think the next step should be How can we create more acceleration to create more friction between the wheels and the floor? because we already have one car that actually moves, although i liked how your next step was different!

My group and I worked on making the cube stronger and attaching the balloons. We tested it and worked the way that we wanted to until it hit the ground. We want to make this little car that will push the cube when it lands.
