Today we learned about 5 mass extinctions. See the link for more details. Students have shown their passion about this topic after watching some videos and engaging in some interesting conversation. You have started recording personal questions and curiosities about the loss of biodiversity and extinction. POST any information that you have found regarding your questions and post one other extinct species besides the ones we suggested in class today eg. Dodo, Wooly mammoth, dinosaurs, etc. Homework:
Math gr. 6 see Ms Farrell, gr. 7 pg 99 D, E Writing: Follow directions on the 100 Word Write page including copying your write on the comments section. Skating field trip Soapstone notices: one green informational form and one white risk form to be returned by Tuesday, Jan. 12th Return envelope, bring report and put into the assessment section of your binder. You need to know what parents wrote on how to support you at home. You also need to bring your writing goal that was planned on your first term report.

The species is the ʻōʻō bird that we had seen in the video. I also have another thing to say! The blue throated Macaw could possibly go extinct in 2016! This year another species could most likely go extinct along with about 300 of the last black rhino species. The reason these rhino's are being killed off is because poachers want their amazing horns. The green sea turtle is also endangered because of their AMAZING turtle shell. All of these species are endangered and really we need to preserve them. The ʻōʻō is the only one I've said that is actually extinct. Have a good night everyone! See you all tomorrow! :) Quote of the day: "A rose can never be a sunflower. A sunflower can never be a rose. All flowers are Beautiful in their own way, and that's like women too."~Miranda Kerr.

The Pig footed bandicoot became extinct in the 1950s. The cause of the extinction remains uncertain, neither of the two most destructive introduced exterminator species, the fox and the rabbit, had yet arrived in south-west Western Australia when the pig-footed bandicoot disappeared from that area. The main threats to the pig-footed bandicoot were invasive species and habitat alteration, both of which continue to pose a great threat to many remaining extant marsupials.Habitat loss has occurred due to land being used for cattle and sheep grazing. Today's math question is: Arnold wants to buy 3 cookies, he has $2.00 and one cookie costs 0.75. Does he have enough money to buy three cookies? if not, why?See you guys tomorrow:)

because 75+75=150. So 0.75+0.75=1.50. Another 0.75 would cause the budget to break. As a result of adding the total cost would be 2.25 so no. Arnold is sad that he can only buy 2 cookies. :(

The Western Black Rhino went extinct in 2011. On of my questions were why were dinosaurs so big. And I found out that it had to do with lungs and respiration as well as egg laying.

About to post my 100 word. THANKS TO GYMNA5T for giving AMAZING feedback. Your the best friend anyone could ever have. One extinct animal is the Passenger Bird. They were native to North America but became extinct in the early 20th century. Because of mass deforestation in a result of habitat loss and a reduction in the bird numbers. People used to hunt these birds for cheap food. For the slaves and the poor in the 19th century. Humans fault. I hope you guys have a great night. "That moment when you run naked out the bathroom because you forgot you towel." HAHAH. Sometimes happens to me. Reply 'dont look at me' if you relate. Byyeee!

My animal that went extinct is sabretooth tiger. (Nice name.) The sabretooth went extinct due to 3 possible reasons. 1. Changing climate near end of Ice Age. 2. Humans hunted them. Or 3. No lack of food, but they had to compete with humans for food, eg. Territory where food lives, larger animals being killed off, stolen kills.

Thanks so much Gymna5t ! One extinct animal is a Baiji White Dolphin. The Baiji could grow to eight feet long! They lived in the Yangtze river for 20 million years, but soon the numbers changed drastically and the dolphins had soon become extinct. Boat propeller accidents and pollution were wiping the dolphins out.

My prehistoric extinct creature is probably the coolest the that ever lived it is also quite the movie star. It stars in movies like Jurassic World you're probably think T-Rex but no I'm talking about the HUGE Mosasaur Hainosaurus 9-15+ metres long. This was pretty much the most dominate species in the sea. It looked a little bigger in the movie due to exaggeration.
