Today we learned that there are reading strategies which help readers understand what they read. 1. Choose one strategy from today (setting a purpose, making connections or background knowledge) and leave a comment describing how you used it and why this strategy is important for reading. 2. Is it possible to make connections without background knowledge? Math In math we reviewed how to place fractions on a number line. We also learned how to write fractions as mixed numbers, improper fractions and what that really means. Practice questions for homework. Genius hour projects: We are now sharing our projects with the class, beginning with our purpose, what we did, then what we learned. Here are a couple of examples from today. Reminders: Band tomorrow

I agree, it is so rewarding when memories start flooding in after being triggered by a part in your novel.

Yes I think you can make connections without knowing backroung knowledge because backround knowledge is something you already know about the book or character.

Right, so if you know some information about the character ahead of time, does this allow you to understand or relate to the character better?

Knowing background knowledge is important because if you don't know anything about whats going on in a story ,it can be almost impossible to figure out the plot in the book at that time .
