Grade 7s practice your decimals with this adding and subtracting decimals game. You can also view this youtube video on how to multiply decimals using models. Your homework is to show 0.3 x 0.9 and 0.8 x 0.9 on a grid. You also are to bring a flyer for next math class. (We may not be able to have math tomorrow so stay tuned for more information.) We continued to view some videos to improve our background information on how humans impact the loss of biodiversity. POST a thoughtful response about the two videos you saw today on the decline of Plankton and Methane. Include questions that you still have. Let's see how many answers you can find! **Remember to send me your blogger link after setting up a site. What fun skating today!

I thought that the videos were sad/ but still cool at the same time, my question is: is plankton an animal, orgisisum, or just a small animal? And how do they produce 50% of our oxygen?

Well I can answer one of your questions and that question is "Is plankton an animal, organism" the answer is a biotic/organism.

My gosh those videos were astonishing... They are trying to tell us all a message "BE GREEN!!!" For example in our classroom we only have one garbage can and (I think) four recycling buckets! If anything belonged in the earth in the first, my motto is LEAVE IT ALONE! Two of my questions are how did the ohoh bird become extinct and the second is how can we get rid of Co2?

I thought the video was really cool and inspiring but also really sad to see what happens when a organism dies. My question is how could of methane caused the great death.

Wow! I had a really great day! I loved the skating! Thanks for coaching at basketball today Ms.W! :) I think this is going to be a really good season/team! I thought that the videos were a wakeup call to us. We never really thought about these organisms dying and when they die it can cause problems for us or even death. I just thought that it talking about how if the earth grew 6 degrees hotter in the next 3 years then the ice caps would melt. Didn't it say something about the ocean dying because of that too? I can't remember. Although we are starting to make electric cars and help the environment we can't change unless we are committed and want to make that change. We want our species and organisms to stay alive! My questions are: How do plankton produce the 50% of our oxygen? And, could the united nations make a rule or law for every country to cut down on carbon emissions? Maybe by importing and making more electric cars? I'm not sure about that and I'm not even sure if the United Nations makes laws. Have a good night! Quote of the day: "If one thing dies, then the whole web collapses."~From the science video today.

The videos are really interesting and for some reason I take a great interest in the mass extinctions, and the environment so this is a fun unit and the videos are cool to watch. I had a lot of questions during the video like "how can plankton technicality be an animal, but produce oxygen...?" Then I kinda answered that with the fact that not everything falls into the two categories of plant and animal anymore... After that I was questioning just "how exactly would plankton creat oxygen..?" And that's my big question! :3

I thought the videos were trying to say how important everything is. If we don't do something about it, ecosystems, land, and organisms will start to disappear, like the 'ō'ō bird. A question I have is, I wonder how the last animal of it's kind would feel and if it knows that it is the last one?

I think we humans need to step up our game and be more like Albert Einstein with the environment and not like the bug that suicide jumped of the edge of the counter. No, really! What I'm saying is humans need to be a little smarter with the environment. Oil companies need to be smarter in where they drill. And cars too. So, what the morale of the story? Get a Eco-boost electric Honda Civic.

I though the videos were sad but necessary for people to be aware of. I feel that the impact of these problems can be a lot bigger if we keep polluting. I was very surprised and shocked at the impact and how fast pollution is damaging earth and its biodiversity. One of my questions is what are some other very important organisms and what are their roles?

I thought the video was very interesting, seeing all the things in the world that matters a lot to us and things that we depend on. Honestly, I never knew plankton provides oxygen. My questions: How do plankton provide oxygen? How did all the 'ō'ō birds become extinct? Since climate change is affecting some species how can we help with that? I found that plankton help to control clouds over remote seas far from land. These clouds in turn bounce the sun’s energy back into space, regulating the Earth’s climate and keeping temperatures cooler than they would otherwise be without them. See you guys tomorrow

Conversation today of plankton I Felt like I really wanted to help do something to save them or anything I could. I was really curious of what they are going to do about the methane problem because that's a big deal. See you guys tomorrow!
