Welcome to 3rd term. Spring has sprung and I hope everyone had a fun-filled, restful Spring Break. Let's share some of our highlights. Post in the comments section. I'll begin: My children and friends organized a surprise 60th birthday party for me...I did not suspect a thing because it is a month before my actual birthday. My mom and siblings came from Ontario and took me on a great holiday to Vancouver Island. I am so fortunate to have such a loving family and caring friends. Here are the Makerspace Learning Journey inspiration pages you completed. Only 10 of you posted your speech topics over the holidays. Have a look at what is there if you still have not posted and be sure to choose a different topic. Topics: smoking, oil spills, racism, cancer, history of Riverview hospital, importance of trees, judgement, Syrian civil war, overcoming obstacles, best friends. We are continuing our poetry unit with concrete poems. A Concrete Poem is a poem whose meaning is conveyed through shape or pattern on the page. The poem takes shape of the object it describes. The meaning is created by both, the way words sound and look. The print of the poem takes shape as a collage or picture to accentuate the meaning. Here are some examples. Try this concrete poetry link to practice writing your own. Reminders:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Shadow Bacon!! P.E. Monday/Wed this week so bring gym strip (remember to leave outdoor hoodie/sweatpants in class as we will go outside on the non-gym days that weather allows.) You need a new exercise book for socials tomorrow. We are beginning our unit of Poverty this week. • Post a statistic about Poverty in the comment section. Be sure you are finished your 5 paragraph practice persuasive write. Math: Grade 7s Mrs. Van Area ...answer in units squared Grade 6s Pg.272-3 #1-4

That looked like so much fun Ms.W! Happy Early Birthday for now! My highlights were going camping and spending a lovely week in the forest with my family. We made smore's and hot dogs but it was all just so much fun! I got to do my equestrian riding (horse back riding) every Saturday and going to do it today! I started thinking of what I wanted to be when I grow up and i realised that I have 2 passions. Culinary arts and helping others. My thoughts were being a doctor or being a chef and possibly opening my own bakery! I started a new show called House M.D i used to watch it with my mom and started it again. I have always had a passion and interest for helping others and was always curious of the ways doctors work. I study the human skeleton in my room as i have a chart on the back of my door. Anyways that was some kinda personal stuff but I hope everyone had a great Spring Break! Back to reality on Monday!

This spring break I changed me living schedule so I'm doing One week with my dad then the next week with my Mom. I also rearranged and got new furniture, including a TV in my room. Another fun thing was going to dinner with my great aunt and uncle and my cousins.

Over the spring break I went to this organic ice cream soft serve place called Soft Peeks as well as spending time with my aunt. I went to see a movie and went to this really cool soda shop. I went bowling with friends and got pizza.

On spring break I went to Victoria and fed the seals at fishermans worf (fishermans worf is a place on water where people live and also there is resterants there). I also went whale watching for three hours in the open ocean, when were whale watching all we saw was about 35 seals, 5 sea lions and 6 bald eagles (three of the Eagles were juvenile)!!!!

Did you know that a third of all childhood death in sub-Saharan Africa is caused by poverty? I think poverty means environments that have not enough money and become poor.

More than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water. Diarrhea caused by inadequate drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene kills an estimated 842,000 people every year globally, or approximately 2,300 people per day.
