Wow...last day of March tomorrow...can you believe it? Congrats to our three gr. 6/7 representatives for participating in the assembly today. You were so brave - the only intermediates to go outside the box and push your learning to overcome your fear of presenting poetry in front of your peers. Way to go Bandola, Little Boy and Tyler. We are all very proud of you... so many approached me with positive comments about your slam poetry. Also congrats to the band. You have come so far and sounded great! Reminders: Groove dance forms need to come back Assess your speaking/content for presentations of statistics for Poverty (see email from me) We worked today on our response drafts for Lovetobutcant and after a modelling session (thanks for volunteering Defiant One) we worked with partners to peer edit. Be sure to make changes and complete your draft #3 for homework. Do this on your google doc so you can print for tomorrow. Socials:

Quote of the day: " It's OKAY to be scared. Being scared means that you're about to do something really, really brave." ~Mandy Hale. My understanding of poverty has changed quite a bit. If you think about the worksheet we got today and look at the different sinarios where poverty exists some of them aren't very clear. Example: Natural disasters: Well after houses, buildings, and buisnesses are ruined whats going to happen? As if the economy isn't slow enough, a natural disaster happens and what is the government going to do? Sure! The government has tons of money! But rebuilding roads, sidewalk, bridges, buildings, houses, and replanting agriculture is going to cost A LOT of money. Its expensive! And what about the water? Disease could be spreading through it and you could get REALLY sick! What about war? I never thought of war as a factor of poverty. I have never considered on what happens when war is dragging you into poverty. Thank you! The build up was the worst part about performing but it was super fun!

It was changed by me knowing all the different causes of poverty because I only thought there was two causes, absolute and relative povery.

I use to think that poverty was bad environments that harm people but my thinking has changed when we read the poverty book. I saw all the information on how poverty happens. Its not just the bad environments it can be because they lost their job, no money or even they could have gotten into drugs etc.

At the very beginning of our poverty unit I never knew what Poverty meant. Now I have a clear understanding of what it means to be in poverty and what absolute and relative poverty is.

I figured that war was always good for the economy, but from our unit I learned that war isn't always good for the economy.

At the beginning of the socials unit I didn't really know the causes of poverty, but now my understanding has grown to a greater altitude. This changed some of my thinking by being more compassionate and understanding of the many factors of ways you can be affected by poverty. For example its not just unemployment that leads people to lose their house or car. It could be a natural disaster like a flood or an earthquake.

I used to think that it was entirely the person is poverty's fault if they were poor, but now I understand most of the time it's not.

Before, I didn't realize about how poverty is knocking on our front door. Now, I can now understand the seriousness of poverty. This unit really taught me about the realness of poverty.

When we first started the poverty unit, I didn't have a clear understanding of what poverty was. Now I have learned so much more, like some of the causes and the different types of poverty. (before, I didnt even know there was more than 1!)

When we were listing facts about our expert topics I realized how much more poverty would come if there was a natural disaster in our area.

At first I thought poverty wasn't a big deal but now that I look at it face to face I feel sad for people living like that especially little kids plus I disn know that over 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day
